Cooking Kaiserschmarrn

Hello! As an assignment for our Incomings Austria subject, all of the Erasmus girls were asked to cook a famous and typical austrian dish, Kaiserschmarrn!. We are going to attach the recipe and the ingredients needed for it. You can try it at home. It is delicious!

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 eggs approx.

  • 125 ml milk

  • 125 g flour

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 2 tbsp sugar raisins (according to taste)

  • 4 tbsp butter (soft)

  • Icing sugar (for dusting)

  • Rum (optional)

DIRECTIONS FOR KAISERSCHMARRN

  1. For the Kaiserschmarrn first of all separate eggs. Mix milk, flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and egg yolks well and leave to rest for 10 minutes.

  2. Whisk egg whites until stiff peaks have formed and fold into the mixture. Stir in raisins.

  3. After that, heat half the butter in a pan. Pour in the mixture and cook on medium heat until golden brown. Turn the mixture onto its other side, add the remaining butter and roast the second side until this, too, is golden brown.

  4. Last but not least, tear the mixture into pieces and briefly roast again.

  5. Before serving, dust the Kaiserschmarrn with icing sugar and finally serve with stewed plums for the classic version.
